We all make mistakes when we market. Even I make them, but when I do, I learn from them. Well, I've made my share of affiliate marketing mistakes and in this article, I'm going to share three of the most common mistakes that most affiliate marketers make. If you can avoid these, you'll give yourself a much better chance of succeeding.

Probably the biggest mistake is the choice of their product to sell. Too many affiliates simply run to the Clickbank marketplace and pick out the top product in whatever category they're interested in. The reason this is a mistake is simple. The top product also means it has the most affiliates promoting it. This means more competition for you. When you are competing with a large number of affiliates, your chances of making sales decrease UNLESS you can substantially differentiate yourself from the other affiliates. And this is where marketers make their second mistake.

They don't go out of their way to stand out. Think about what you do as an affiliate marketer. If I had to guess, I'd say you probably pick out a product, look for the affiliate signup page, search for their canned ads that they give to all their affiliates and then start sending out these ads all over God's creation. Think about it. If you're sending out the same ads that every other affiliate marketer is sending out, how do you make yourself stand out? You don't, and this is one of the biggest reasons that so many affiliate marketers fail.

Finally, there are the types of promotion that the average affiliate marketer allows himself to tackle. Most affiliate marketers are afraid to be adventurous. They simply stick to the same old, dull things that everybody else is doing. As a result, they get lost in the soup and end up making no sales because prospects can't pick them out of the crowd. Imagine going to a big city and hiding in a men's bathroom and expect to get noticed by a Hollywood agent. It's not going to happen.
